Durango Hybrid

The Dodge Durango hybrid will be one of the first Chrysler hybrids when it goes on sale in the later half of 2008, probably as a 2009 model.

Offering an overall 25 percent improvement in fuel economy, the Dodge Durango hybrid will be one of the first Hemi-powered hybrids, built upon the dual mode hybrid powertrain that Chrysler and GM developed together.

The 5.7-liter, 385 horsepower HEMI also offers the Multiple Displacement System (MDS), which helps Chrysler's dual mode hybrid technology to "leapfrog current technology."

By seamlessly alternating between four-cylinder mode and eight-cylinder modes, the two mode hybrid uses just the right amount of power based upon driving conditions. Combined with low- and high-speed electric continuously variable transmission (ECVT) the Durango hybrid can use the electric motors for acceleration, improving fuel economy, or for regenerative breaking which can be stored in the 300-volt battery pack.
